Facebook Status Cloud November 17, 2009

I’ve been on Facebook since December 2006, when Erika Harno introduced me to it. I didn’t really know what to do with it until I went skiing with Oak Hall in April, and within a week I had 70 “friends” (I’ve always been fascinated by the words these companies use – are all your friends REALLY friends? And isn’t followers for Twitter a bit creepy, as for Fans on Facebook pages – I’m sure there must be another word for that now pages are hosted by non-celebrities e.g. I have one for Digital Fingerprint and created one for Super Fun Days Out, which we’re still developing).

Now the joke is that I’m never off it, so I was curious when I saw the offer to create a tag cloud of all my status updates ever (there are other options)… I wonder how recognisable I am to my Facebook friends!

Interesting…

Looks like I am always wondering what’s happening tomorrow, and tired at night… and I’m always trying to do something! I’ve clearly talked about various interviews – upcoming, outcomes, etc. and clearly quite often update my status as I’m dilly-dallying about getting dressed! Bizarre mix, but not that surprising!

I’ve clearly used more words than this, so be interesting to see the algorithm that is used (not that I’d make much sense of it if it’s pure maths…). The cloud to the left is taken from a lifetime of tweets, whilst the one below is from the last month.

Patience Please: Transfer in Process October 29, 2009

JigsawAs I have become more familiar with WordPress, I have moved the blog “drbexl searches the ‘net” across into here, and am slowly moving the information across from my Dreamweaver based website – CMS-style blogs are the way to go! The intention is that this site will become hosted upon http://www.bex-lewis.co.uk, or maybe http://www.drbexl.co.uk but I need to sort out a few issues such as hosting, email, etc. first…

WOO HOO: Managed to import this blog into: http://drbexl.co.uk/, so can start to build that up to replace this blog and http://www.bex-lewis.co.uk, so I can start to develop some permalinks. Only taken me about 7 months to get this far! Not quite sorted out the theme, etc for the new site, but the content can keep going in there – I like life to be one long experiment! Thanks to Catalyst2 for super-fast support and the odd suggestion which enabled me to get this far!

My first plane trip, from Heathrow, London to Sao Paulo, Brazil August 23, 2009

Air France, what a great airline…

I was excited all the way up until getting on the plane… I'd been planning the trip for nearly a year, as part of my "Gap Year" – I'd never flown before, and as it was Air France, it stopped in Paris, so my Mum came with me for that bit. The short flight was fine – hadn't seen enough stuff on TV etc to be too worried about crashing, etc., so it was just another new experience (yes, I like those) to savour… First landing was fine too!

Said goodbye to my Mum, I think finally realising that I was going to a strange country for 5 months and didn't really know what was going to happen! If I was on the same flight now (the long one), I'd probably kick up a whole lot more. The films didn't seem to work – so we watched that little plane move across the screen veeeeeeeeeeery slowly, and when the meals came round, looked like someone had been sick in it… but that actually did all tie in with what people had said about airline food! We flew into Rio for refuelling and to get rid of some passengers, at which point someone drove into one of the propellors/engines – but gave me a chance to talk to a Brazilian couple who tried to teach me some Portuguese and then invited me to stay in the Pantanal – which I did about 4 months later…

Be open to those new experiences!

It’s hard to apologize when I know I’m wrong July 18, 2009

In many ways it's easy to apologise when I know I'm wrong, because then at least I do know why I'm apologising, but many times, it takes a while to work up to saying I'm sorry!! It depends on how badly I think I'm wrong, and how badly I think I might have hurt someone else's feelings in the process..
